What is Kajabi?
I started creating content online in 2008 with platforms like Blogger and WordPress. Over the years, I moved between several different website hosts and service providers, but I always ran into the same problems.
These technology tools were supposed to simplify my life. They were supposed to make it easier, faster, and more enjoyable to create content online. But they didn't. All they did was add complicated steps to my creative process.
In many ways, Kajabi was one of my last hopes. I knew what I wanted to build, but it wasn't until I stumbled upon Kajabi that I felt I had finally found what I had been looking for.
If you’re just starting to create content for the web, are looking to build an online business, or want to simplify and streamline your digital tool suite, Kajabi is for you.
What is Kajabi?
Kajabi is an all-in-one online platform that makes it easy to create, build, sell, and market anything you want.
I’m an author, so my main concerns were Kajabi’s ability to help me reach people with a blog, communicate effortlessly with email, and host easy-to-use courses for my audience.
Fun fact: the word “Kajabi” is an ancient aboriginal word and means “to take flight.”
Kajabi consists of 9 separate features or parts:
- Payments (Offers)
- Pipelines (Funnels)
- People (Audience)
Each feature replaced a completely different software product in my online business. By switching to Kajabi, I saved an average of $300 a month.
To give you an idea of how all of these parts fit together, let me walk you through a quick summary of each one.
What is Kajabi Product
Replaces: Teachable, Facebook Groups, Podia, Thinkific, and more.
Products are one of the main features the Kajabi brand is known for. Think of products as what your customers will purchase access to, such as an online course. There are 7 types of product templates that Kajabi has ready to go for new users:
- Mini Course
- Online Course
- Evergreen Training
- Coaching Program
- Start from Scratch
Each one is fully customizable and if you really want to create something different, you can use the “Start from Scratch” option to combine features in new ways.
Products can be grouped together using Offers. For example, one common pairing is the Membership product and Community product. Together, these make one of the most user-friendly membership site models I’ve seen.
Depending on which pricing plan you choose, you will have the ability to create anywhere from 3 – 100 different products.
If you would like to watch a walkthrough for one of these products, I recommend this video: How To Create An Online Course with Kajabi
What is Kajabi Website
Replaces: WordPress, Bluehost, Squarespace, Wix, and more.
Kajabi is also a complete website builder. The platform takes care of all hosting and comes preloaded with a variety of different templates to choose from.
The websites that Kajabi allows you to build are mobile responsive, SEO friendly, and fully customizable. My favorite part is that you don’t need to know how to code in order to change any part you want!
Kajabi Support is one of the unspoken treasures of the platform. You chat, email, or call and get your questions answered by a real human in real-time.
I prefer books to computers, so if I can build a website I’m proud of – so can you!
Another benefit of using an all-in-one system is that there are never any problems with integrations. My website, courses, email, plug-ins, and everything else ALWAYS work because they all belong together. Seriously, I remember getting regular emails from WordPress or Squarespace about some tool always being broken. Then, I would have to take 20 minutes out of writing time to search forums on how to fix it.
I’ve used Kajabi for nearly 3 years now and have never, not once, had to interrupt my writing time to fix a technical issue. That alone is worth the cost to me.
What is Kajabi Payments (or Offers)
Replaces: SamCart, ThriveCart, Sellfy, and more.
Kajabi payments is a simple shopping cart software that is fully integrated with everything in Kajabi. You can get paid by attaching Stripe or Paypal (I chose Stripe and the whole process took only a few minutes).
The nice thing about payments is that the checkout pages and the steps for the entire checkout process itself are fully customizable.
And did I mention that Kajabi never takes a cut or percentage of your sales? No matter what pricing plan you choose, you get to keep 100% of the sales income you generate through their platform. It’s a little ridiculous that so many platforms charge you every time you make a dollar after you’ve already paid to use their tool. How is that fair?
Kajabi Offers are related to payments. Offers are essentially the price tag you create for any of your Products. A cool feature is that any one Product can have an unlimited number of Offers attached to it, meaning you can create special prices for certain customers without needing to generate custom coupon codes (although, coupons are very easy to create within Kajabi as well).
You also have the ability to create “Ghost Offers.” Ghost Offers are offers that don’t have a product attached to them. Why would you want to use these?
Let’s say you want to charge for a PDF and send customers the file directly after they purchase the offer. Well, there’s no need to create an entire product for that. Just slip the file into an email template, create a ghost offer, and you’re ready to go. You can also use ghost offers for scheduling consulting gigs and similar time-sensitive trainings.
What is Kajabi Email
Replaces: MailChimp, ConvertKit, AWeber, and more.
Kajabi Email is a complete email marketing solution. Anything you can do in similar applications, you can do in Kajabi email, and usually faster. The emails also come with a host of templates to choose from.
A few items worth noting is that Kajabi allows you to:
- Schedule emails
- Create broadcasts to all subscribers or only specific segments
- Create tags based on subscriber actions
- Create autoresponder series
- Use automations to complete a range of automated tasks
- View in-depth analytics for each email campaign
You also don’t get charged for growing your email list like most other platforms do. Depending on which platform you choose, you will have between 10,000 – 100,000 contacts included. That way, as your business and influence grows online, your costs won’t have to.
What is Kajabi Pages
Replaces: Leadpages, Instapage, Optimize Press, ClickFunnels, and more.
Kajabi Pages is a complete landing page and lead generation tool for creatives, entrepreneurs, and more.
Of course, the number of available templates for Kajabi Pages is huge and growing as they continue to add more to the library.
Kajabi pages offer full control over their design. You can pair them up with any offer or product. They are also extremely flexible and quickly customizable.
One day while writing a piece of word count tracking, I got an idea for a simple tool I could create that would make my life easier (and likely help other writers in the process). But one thing I’ve learned the hard way is to, first, find out if there is even an audience for your product before you build it.
So instead of building the product right away, I jumped on Kajabi, whipped up a quick Page with some information about the potential product, added an opt-in box, then sent some traffic to it.
Within 48 hours, I knew I had to build the product because people were responding in droves. Then, within 2 weeks, I sold that product on that same landing page by making a few simple tweaks. To date, I’ve made over $700 passively from that one page.
Little wins add up very quickly.
What is Kajabi Pipelines
Replaces: ClickFunnels, Kartra, BuilderAll, and more.
Next to the products, Kajabi Pipelines was the number one reason I switched to this platform. Pipelines are funnels. Kajabi likes to say that they “put the ‘fun’ back in funnels!”
The interface is very intuitive and laid out chronologically. Below, you can see a screenshot I took of one of their simplest pipeline layouts: an opt-in and email sequence.
Within each sequence, you can add additional pages, videos, emails, redirects, limited offers, and more. You can also add in automations so that certain customers or subscribers only see certain parts of your pipeline.
The options are endless and it can get complicated if you're looking to create something with a lot of moving parts. My recommendation is to start by using the prebuilt templates that they have available.
Every single template they have was proven to work with an existing business that is hosted on Kajabi. You're not getting something they only think will work in theory. Someone is actually making money from their pipelines, so start there (which is exactly what I did), and you’ll be golden.
What is Kajabi Analytics
Replaces: Google Analytics, FoxMetrics, JetPack, and more.
I was first exposed to the concept of data-driven decision making during my years in higher education. As technology and education integrated more and more, we started to be able to collect all kinds of relevant data. Then, that data helped us make decisions such as: how to schedule our staff, when to plan events, where to spend our advertising dollars, and more.
Data and metrics are an assumed function for online business, which is why I think most authors and bloggers take them for granted. However, when used properly, they can exponentially impact your reach.
Kajabi analytics is a complete dashboard that shows your website traffic, revenue, opt-ins, student progress in courses, and more. Basically, if something important happens on your site, Kajabi has a way to measure and quantify it for you to understand.
One way I’ve used analytics to grow my business is to eliminate underperforming pages so that I could direct traffic to more centralized destinations. Less is more when it comes to conversion and by focusing on my top 3 pages, I’ve more than doubled my income since starting.
What is Kajabi People
Replaces: Salesforce, similar CRMs, and more.
Kajabi doesn’t call your list some dry, professional term. They call them People and I think that says a lot about where their head is at when it comes to business. Every business should be people-centered and Kajabi helps make that happen.
Kajabi People is where you manage everyone connected with your site and your work: the customers who have purchased your products, the readers subscribed to your email lists, and the affiliates helping you market your work.
Each person connected with your Kajabi in some way will each have their own profile automatically created which tells you their:
- Email address
- When they joined (subscribed, purchased, etc.)
- When their last activity was (such as opening an email)
- What products they’ve purchased
- Their progress within each product
- Any additional notes or tags you add for them.
The profiles are incredibly helpful, robust, and user-friendly. Plus, once they become a member they will have the ability to customize their own profiles so that you can access even additional data on them and, ideally, learn how to attract similar customers.
What is Kajabi Mobile
Replaces: Browsers such as Chrome, Safari, and more.
An excellent, recent addition to the Kajabi universe was their new mobile app which allows users to access all sorts of content.
One unique feature of the Kajabi app is that it pulls together all of the content associated with your login. Let's say you use the same email address to access 4 different courses by 4 different creators who all use Kajabi. By downloading the Kajabi mobile app and logging in with that same email address, you will instantly have access to everything you've purchased that is hosted on Kajabi.
You can watch this short video for more information as well as an inside look at the app's usability: Kajabi App – What it is & How to use it
Obviously, I'm kind of Kajabi fan! But the best way to know if it's for you is to try it for yourself. Use this link to start your own 28 Day Free Trial of Kajabi. Follow each step of the challenge, learn the system, and build something you can be proud of.
